CBT AND MODERN PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY STOCKHOLM

BOOK THERAPY TODAY

Are you in a crisis, feeling hopeless or want to give yourself a fresh start? Then psychotherapy may be for you. I receive people from all age groups with varying problems.

I offer a combination of CBT and modern psychodynamic psychotherapy to both be able to help you understand your story and how it has shaped you, as well as give you concrete tools to get started on changing and improving your life.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is based on psychoanalytic theory and a humanistic approach. That man has an unconscious inner life which has largely been shaped by close relationships both during his upbringing and continuously during his life. If you can understand what has shaped you in your relationships, you can also get a better understanding of yourself and who you are today. Insight is a prerequisite for being able to take the important steps to change and have the opportunity to live your life to the fullest.

My goal is to create a good and trusting collaborative relationship between you as a client and me as a therapist. Together with me, you should be able to feel confident in exploring what you are curious about in your life. By understanding how we were once shaped, we can better understand who we have become today and what we need to change to feel better.

KBT

CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) is a treatment method that is focused on improving the present by trying to understand and change thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns that can be destructive and hindering for the individual. Each treatment is unique and we will start from your problems and together explore what can improve your life situation.

Being able to handle your problems in everyday life outside the therapy room is an important element in a CBT treatment and therefore you sometimes work with homework. We will concretely investigate which factors can change here and now in the interaction between you as an individual and your surroundings in order to improve your life situation.

That people have a natural drive to want to develop is a consistent basic view within CBT. To get past the obstacles that stand in the way, the psychotherapist is there to help and support.

CBT and psychodynamic psychotherapy are based on a trusting collaboration

A trusting collaboration means that you as a client in the meeting with me as a psychotherapist feel that I am committed and curious and that I want to understand your situation and your challenges.

Another basic precondition for a trusting collaboration is that I, as a psychotherapist, do not value or judge what is being said, you should feel completely safe in the room. The collaboration is guided more by a joint investigation to understand the meaning and context and why your life is not the way you want it to be.

Common problems we can work with

Stress-related problems

When the environment and your own demands exceed your performance for a longer period, the vulnerability to develop stress-related problems increases. The risk of stress increases, for example, when you feel insecure, experience a feeling of meaninglessness or when you feel that you have no control.

Stress is really an original and natural reaction and the body’s way of responding to threats and danger. By putting all the senses in readiness with a combat, flight or freezing response, we increase our chances of survival. Daily brooding, anxiety and negative thoughts are common causes of increased stress.

Underlying factors can be problems in the workplace, relationship problems, illnesses or financial difficulties. Symptoms of lasting, high stress can include fatigue, brain fog, weakened immune system, anxiety, hypersensitivity, restlessness and difficulty concentrating.

Recovery is largely about learning to manage your energy and finding a good balance between activity and rest. Understanding vulnerabilities to fatigue is also an important part of the work. Together we can work out a sustainable approach to this.

Low self-esteem

Low self-esteem often has a profound impact on our lives. Fear and self-doubt can limit us so that we are not able to do the things we want to do and our relationships often suffer.

Common feelings are shame and guilt and sometimes we may feel inadequate or even worthless. Attempts to deal with low self-esteem are often about a lack of ability to set healthy boundaries where, for example, we take too much responsibility for the well-being of others or where we ourselves are exploited. For some people, low self-esteem can mean communication difficulties, fear of taking up space and sometimes social phobia.

Working therapeutically with one’s self-esteem is about giving oneself a chance for healthier relationships both with oneself and with others. An increased ability for an empathetic and permissive approach in combination with an improved ability to set boundaries often has a profound effect on our perceived quality of life. A good self-esteem increases the conditions for not only daring to dream but also for being able to formulate and achieve different goals in life.

Relationship problems

Meaningful relationships are of great importance for our well-being. To be able to share both joy and sorrow, to support and be supported and to be able to receive and give confirmation and care. A healthy relationship is characterized by a balance between both parties, where both over time give the same amount and where both feel equally valuable to the other.

Relationship problems are one of the most common reasons why one seeks therapy. It is often a matter of unclear boundaries and a lack of trust. Problems can, for example, be found in relationships in the workplace, with friends and in the family. Common in romantic relationships is that one party feels neglected and excluded and the other feels pressured and questioned.

With therapy, we can gain an increased understanding of our relationship patterns. We can also learn to find better approaches in conflict situations and become clearer with boundaries so that we can create safer and more trusting relationships.

Worry and anxiety

Worry thoughts are something we all struggle with from time to time. Constructive worry helps us prepare for challenges and tackle problems. Worry can, however, become an involuntary habit where we can end up in both catastrophic thoughts about the future and lingering about what has been. Worry drains us of energy and takes focus away from other things. Worry can feel like a lump in the stomach and like a restlessness in the body.

Anxiety is a stronger form of worry and can often be about restrained fear and feelings of insecurity. Anxiety often has a strong physical impact on our body in the form of pressure over the chest, palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness and sweating. Having an anxiety attack or panic attack as it is also called can be a very frightening experience even if it is not in itself dangerous and always transient.

Both worry and anxiety can make you avoid things that you would really like to be able to do. Working with worry and anxiety is therefore largely about learning to respond to your fears and finding an approach to them. When you learn to find peace in yourself, you also have better conditions to cope with the challenges you want in life.

Sadness and depression

We all feel sad from time to time, often in connection with perceived losses or stress. The symptoms can be lack of energy and difficulty motivating oneself. It is also common to suffer from self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy. With more persistent sadness, you may need to seek help to find ways to regain motivation, self-confidence and energy.

Suffering from depression is quite common, about 20% of the population has experienced it. Common symptoms are weakness, passivity, numbness and a feeling of hopelessness. Depression often requires help to get out.

With CBT, we can create an activity plan where we gradually introduce meaningful and energizing activities in everyday life in combination with relaxation exercises. If you want to go a little deeper, we can also work with self-esteem and early imprints that can often have an effect on depression.

Feeling of futility

Feelings of futility often have a far-reaching negative impact on our lives. Many describe it as feeling numb and emotionally inaccessible. Others have described it as not really living life. It is also common to feel that you do not really know yourself and do not know what you want out of life.

It is quite common to have felt this way for a long time. In therapy, we can explore your upbringing and examine imprints that may have contributed to you not really having the opportunity to get to know yourself from the beginning. Maybe you have experienced early in life that you needed to take a lot of responsibility for others or maybe you have had to fend for yourself.

In therapy with me, we can work together to understand your story and how it has shaped you. We will also help you find out who you really are when you are in your “barefoot self” as it was intended from the beginning.
